One of my all time favorite recipes is a simple one but just as yummy none the less. I found this recipe on allrecipes.com which I absolutely love.. they have so many great recipes and so here it is :)

Day 12: Best Advice You’ve Ever Been Given –Blogtober14

Hello Everyone!

Happy Sunday Funday! Welcome to day 12 of Blogtober14 :)

Helene in Between Blogtober
Day 12: Best Advice I’ve Ever Been Given
So when I saw the topic for today’s post, I drew a mind blank.. I’ve been given tons of advice before that has been really good but of course when I need those I can’t think of any but there is one phrase that I have been told again and again and I really think its super helpful to anyone and everyone. It’s the serenity prayer. My therapist along with friends and family have told me this time and time again and I try and have it in the back of my mind when I feel like things are getting out of control.

It’s not much but I honestly feel like it speaks so much at the same time. Anytime I feel like things are getting bad, I think about this and it makes me feel better because I do feel like a lot of the time we forget that we can’t change everything and we have to accept that in order to move forward.
One other one that just came to mind that is really really great advice is Treat others the way you want to be treated. It’s so simple but I feel like it gets overlooked all the time and people forget that sometimes when we are abrupt or rude to someone else, that we wouldn’t want to be treated that way either so I think its just a great rule of thumb to have.
what about you? what’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten?

Day 11: If I Were President… –Blogtober14

Hello Everyone!

Happy Saturday! Did you do anything fun today? I went to brunch with some friends and that was awesome :) but anywho let’s get on with day 11 of Blogtober14 :)

Helene in Between Blogtober
Day 11: If I were President…
I feel like this topic is a fully loaded topic.. and to be completely honest, I am definitely not a fan of politics or anything of the sort so I’m just going to keep this light and simple :)
If I were president:
  • gay marriage wouldn’t be an issue.. everyone would have equal rights for sure
  • there would be universal healthcare.. no more worrying about insurance or anything of the sort.
  • we would no longer have to pay for higher education.. let’s all get smart who want to get smart.. no more tuition
  • revamping of our welfare system– its a great idea but the system is flawed for sure
  • people would have to apply for a license to have a child.. and women should be able to opt out of having kids if they know for sure that they don’t ever want them
  • and last but not least…. World Peace!

I know that there are a million issues out there that may be more or less serious but these are just things that come to mind off the top of my head. I just want everyone to be happy and healthy :)

what about you?

until tomorrow <3

Day 9: Best or Worst Halloween Memory #TBT –Blogtober14

Hello Everyone!

Happy Thursday! Welcome to Day 9 of Blogtober14!

Helene in Between Blogtober

So I have to admit that this topic is kind of boring for me because of the fact that I don’t have any memories of Halloween, mainly because when I was younger my mom wouldn’t let me celebrate Halloween and when I was in college and stuff I wasn’t into the huge party scene so I don’t have too much to share :p but at the last company I worked for, we did dress up 80’s style and that was a ton of fun and since I have pictures of that I’ll include them :) Hopefully you’ll enjoy these just as much as if it were Halloween pictures :) even though they were taken in July of 2012 :p It was a lot of fun dressing up :)

Seeing Dad After 20 years…

Hello Everyone! Happy Hump Day!! woo! I love that saying.. and I love this even more :)

hump day

The week is halfway over! I can’t express any more how exciting that is :D but anyway let’s move on.

At the end of August, my dad, who I hadn’t talked to in over 20 years found me on facebook. It was insane and I debated for a while whether or not I wanted to talk to him and tell him that I was in fact his daughter but after long deliberation I thought that it would be best to let him know and just not expect anything. Well after talking to him for a little bit, he asked if he could come out and see me so I said sure, not really expecting him to come out.

Well long story short, he came out in the beginning of September and I’m really glad that he did. It was such an awesome experience and being able to catch up from the past 20 years and hear about information that I never knew before. I’m so glad that we were able to meet and spend a whole week together.

Seeing since he hadn’t been to California in over 25 years, we did all the fun touristy stuff like going to Hollywood and the Santa Monica Pier and the beach and Malibu and all of that good stuff. I feel really blessed that I’m a stay at home wife because I was able to spend all that time with him and not have to worry about work or taking vacation days and all that.

But since he visited, we have kept in touch and hopefully will continue to do so. I know that being able to reestablish relationships with parents who haven’t been around for so long is super hard, but I’m grateful for the opportunity and will definitely make sure that I don’t miss this opportunity. Here’s a picture of Dad and I :) Do we look alike?

Have you ever gotten back in touch with a family member after a long period of time?

Day 8: A Letter To Myself in 10 Years –Blogtober14

Hello Everyone!

Happy Hump Day! Woo! I’m so excited that the week is half way over :) I can not wait for the weekend! Are you as excited as I am?! Although this week has been pretty low key so that’s always nice :) But let’s get started on day 8 shall we?

Day 8: A Letter to Myself in 10 Years
I’ve never done one of ¬†these but I think it will be a lot of fun :)
Dear Diana,
I would hope that by now you have had 2 beautiful kids who should be in school by now. I’m also hoping that you will have finished your degree like you said you would and are working part time teaching preschool.. if not, you have a lot of explaining to do! Please make sure that you are still taking time out of your day to take care of you.. by making sure that you are doing something you really enjoy.. otherwise it’s going to be really hard for you to take care of everyone else.
It must be simply amazing to have been married for 12 years now! I can only imagine how happy you are having found the love of your life and having been able to spend the past 12 years together.
Please tell me that you have gotten better about your fashion sense :p I know that you’ve been working on having better fashion since I can remember. But hey as long as you’re happy with your choices.. that’s all that matters.
It’s really odd to write a letter to yourself in the future so I don’t have too much to say but I hope that you are happy and healthy and that your kids are as amazing as I think they would be :)
Diana
What would you tell yourself in 10 years?

Day 7: Best/ Worst Vacation

To be completely honest, I don’t think I’ve actually had a bad vacation so I’ll talk about my best vacation. It was the long weekend when I got married :) That weekend is probably one of the best weekends of my life. We got married in Laguna Beach on St. Patrick’s Day 2012. It was so quaint and perfect I couldn’t have asked for a better vacation or wedding <3 Here are a few pictures of that amazing weekend :)

Day 6: 10 Things I Wish I Told Myself When I Started Blogging — Blogtober14

Hello Everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend! I know I did. I also decided to take yesterday off to really just hang out with my family and relax. But I’m back on track with Blogtober14 so let’s get started :)

Helene in Between Blogtober
Day 6: 10 Things I Wish I Told Myself When I Started Blogging
Well to be completely honest, it hasn’t been quite a year since I started blogging so I’m still really new to the blogging world but I’ll do my best to share what my thoughts are.
1) Do not compare yourself to other bloggers. Everyone is different and writes differently.
2) Make a schedule and stick to it. Don’t just say you will.. actually do it.
3) Take good pictures.. I’m still working on this one :p
4) Blog because you really want to blog and for nothing else.
5) Write about things that you’re really passionate about.
6) Comment on other blogs that you find interesting.
7) Blogging is a ton of hard work but don’t give up!
8) Be true to yourself and what you write about.. don’t write about something if it doesn’t tickle your fancy.
9) Don’t be discouraged by what people say.
10) Have Fun!
All of these are still things that I’m actively working on but hopefully they are still helpful to you as well, if you are looking to blog or have just started. Don’t worry if you decide to change directions or whatnot on your blog.. just be true to yourself and what you are writing about and as long as you enjoy it, others probably will too :)
until tomorrow <3
